About

Inspired by living in Poland & attending a few Warsaw Autumn Music Festivals, Bob Priest founded Marzena in Seattle (1986) with a debut concert @ the Nippon Kan Theatre. Since that time, Marzena has produced & presented more than 100 concerts, films, visual art installations & dozens of radio programs in Seattle, Bellingham, Vancouver, Victoria & Portland.

During Marzena’s 5-year Seattle Spring Festival of New Music & World Arts (1988-92), full-length composer portraits devoted to Penderecki, Schafer, Corigliano, Gubaidulina & Takemitsu were mounted with the composers in attendance. Marzena was an ensemble-in-residence @ the University of Victoria (1994-2000), founded the Free Marz String Trio in 2006, launched March Music Moderne in 2011, released a CD in 2011 (“Hendrix Uncovered”) & began issuing Ear Trumpet’s PDX New Music Calendar in 2014 on an occasional basis.
